10 Reasons Why I Love McKinney |
|
1. The Friendly Atmosphere When we first moved to McKinney, TX. back in 2006 I went to the grocery store the second day we lived here. I was wondering the isles, minding my business, just as I did at the Albertson in California. I made it to the dairy section when woman stopped and actually started talking to me, just out of no where? I thought “well maybe she’s just one of those overly friendly people.” I couldn’t have been more wrong. After my first trip to the grocery store, the mall, the doctor’s office the kids school and meeting my neighbors, I realized that southern hospitality is a real thing and McKinney was overflowing. I felt at home right away! A couple of years later a friend of mine (that was from California as well) was in a really bad car accident. Unfortunately, she lost her four year-old son. It was a horrible time for her and her family. The community however, rose to the occasion. The outpouring of love, support and charity was overwhelming. It showed me what community is and what it’s meant to be. How lucky and proud I felt that I was able to be a part of this community. I love taking walks in the beautiful parks of McKinney. My family and I often go up to Erwin Park to hike and picnic. It’s a really nice way to get out and spend some time with nature. If you’re feeling like you need a get-a-way or vacation and can’t, just go spend a few hours at a McKinney Park. You’ll feel rejuvenated and happy. Nature is the best therapy! The schools in McKinney are awesome. Not only do they go above and beyond with all the programs they have to offer but they too are very supportive with community. When my nephew was diagnosed with cancer two years ago, McKinney Boyd High School put together a fundraiser and raised over $2,500 for my nephew and my sister. I moved here eight years ago, blind and on the good faith of my husband. He picked the best town for our family. I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else! – Nicole |
