Halloween traditions

October officially starts off the holiday season!

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays.  Every year I look forward to baking Halloween treats and watching some scary movies.  The easiest treats that I like to make are caramel apples and Rice Krispie treats.  One weekend before Halloween I will have a scary movie marathon and bake.  First I like to make Rice Krispie treats.  I like to buy the candy corn shaped marshmallows that actually taste like candy corn and use those to make the treats.  They come out in a light orange color and taste fantastic.  I like making these because it’s the quickest treat to make.

Carmel apples are another favorite of mine.  I will never turn down a caramel apple. I remember when I was little making caramel apples. I loved it because it was a messy process.  I usually got caramel everywhere but the apple.  The best apples to use are green apples.  I like the sweet and sour combination.

The last thing that I enjoy baking is a spice cake.  It may not be the quick treat to whip up but it taste amazing.  I usually bake it last so the house smells like spices during the night.  Once the cake is cooled off, I cut myself a piece and watch Hocus Pocus.  It may not be the scariest movie, but it is a great movie to end the day with.

So what better way to kick off the holiday season than sweet treats and scary movies?  Once October is here, it is time to bust out the treats.  It is a tradition that I will continue to do every year.  I hope you have a Happy Halloween!
